Therapy is like a lantern that lights your path. You can better see the bump in the road and navigate more clearly around it. The bump may still forever be there, but you are better prepared and you will likely remember it is there when you pass by again. In the beginning of therapy, I may be holding the lantern as we talk, but by the end, I hope you will carry the lantern as you continue your journey, and you will have your own matches, oil, and a new wick to keep that lantern lit.
Individual counseling/therapy can provide you with the opportunity to explore emotions, work through hard choices and find ways to be your most authentic self. I try to create a safe environment where you can be yourself. I want to walk alongside my clients and help to empower them, guide them into self-discovery, develop healthy skills for living life to its fullest, and help them find hope in whatever situations they may be dealing with.
I commonly work with people in managing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, and grief/loss. We all at times encounter difficulties/challenges in our lives – it’s part of being human. But, if you are feeling stuck and overwhelmed by those difficulties, know that you are not alone. Working together, we can explore and try to understand & change the belief patterns that are leaving you feeling stuck and overwhelmed.
What is Therapy Like?
Every therapy session is unique and particular to each individual and their specific goals. We usually start each session discussing recent developments in your life, and then also discuss more longer-standing issues you are working on. We are likely to schedule weekly 45-60 minute sessions, especially in the beginning, but then you might later decide to meet every other week, or monthly to meet your needs.
You can always choose when you feel like therapy has helped enough to discontinue. Some clients I may see short-term, for a few weeks focusing on a specific issue or it can be longer-term for several months to address more complex issues or ongoing personal growth. While therapy happens during our session time, there may be times when you are asked to try something new outside of the therapy session. This might include reading a relevant book or article, keeping a diary to track certain issues, or take actions designed to help you reach your personal goals.
